The book might be 50 pages shorter if the author cut out all of the sentences which contain the phrase, "if people followed my routines properly. I have a couple friends that swear by this book and their babies were sleeping from 7pm to 7am by nearly 12 weeks. One thing I do remember from all those years ago is that my uncle and aunt never seemed to have any issues getting my cousins to bed. He really was the quintessential ‘good baby’ I don’t think it would have mattered if he was demand or routine. They will usually say something along the lines of “My friend used the routines from that book and their baby sleeps like an absolute angel, its incredible”.

Even at the time, I found certain suggestions such as ironing your baby's sheets (which will only be pissed/shat/puked on within 24 hours) absurd. The routines also ensure that once your baby is capable of going one longer spell between feeds, this will happen in the middle of the night, not during the day.

I did find many points within the book useful, namely that fact that it’s OK to wake up your sleeping baby. One other thought about this: books that sell in the millions have often been bought by a significant number of people who really hate them. I think this book is best used as a guide and as a whole it flows much better when you pick and choose bits from it to suit your lifestyle and baby. Her advice and methods have been a godsend to tired, stressed parents throughout the world and have helped a generation of children go to bed on time and sleep soundly through the night.
